Nigel is located on the South-eastern border of Gauteng. Nigel Home for the Elderly's buildings were erected in 1972 by the Nigel City Council but is operated by Tutela.

Nigel Home for the Elderly has three types of accommodation:

Semi Frail, Frail and Alzheimer's Ward is available depending on frailty.

In the B-Ward the residents are still largely independent in their general daily activities such as washing, getting dressed, eating, etc. They are housed in comfortable single rooms.

The Semi-frail Ward houses residents who already need help with washing, dressing and movement.

These two departments are supervised by a qualified nurse, as well as a few other staff nurses and auxiliary nurses.

Impaired elderly, many of whom are bedridden or room-bound, are cared for comprehensively in the Frail Care Unit.

Some residents are also dependent on permanent oxygen supply and others, if needed, are being fed.

In 2007, an Alzheimer's Ward was set up due to the great need for this type of care. It has been gradually expanded so that there are currently facilities for 23 Alzheimer's patients.
